In May we have the fortune of having at our facilities the most modern and fastest trimaran in the world, the Bajamar Express.
This 118-metres long Trimaran Fast Ferry is capable of transporting 1,100 passengers and 276 cars. The excellent collaboration between the two companies has made it possible to adapt the beam of the trimaran to Astican’s docking capacity, which is a double honor, firstly by becoming the longest-beam ship ever drydocked in Astican, with a clearance of just 80 cm and second, allowing to reduce the carbon footprint in order to avoid having to travel outside the Canary Islands to carry out the periodic dry-docking, a reduction that has been recognized as a significant ship of the year 2020 by RINA (the Royal Institution of Naval Architects) for having designs that minimize its impact on the environment with lightweight structures and the use of sustainable materials that reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
After three years of construction and 20 days of navigation from Australia to the Canary Islands, the Bajamar Express arrived to the Fred. Olsen’s family the last year. But before its first commercial operations between the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Agaete, in August, we had the pleasure of having it few days afloat for tank cleaning.
At the weekend ASTICAN welcomed with open arms one of the most environmentally friendly fast ships on the market in its first mandatory drydock and overhaul work after its entry into service in 2020 with some welding, painting and inspection works.
Looking forward to working together again.
